A private Seoul research university founded in 1939 and best known for engineering. International students can apply to Korean-taught majors, or to English-taught tracks in International Studies, Data Science and Global Management.

Who can apply?
Nationality
You and both parents must be foreign nationals, with foreign citizenship obtained before you started high school. Dual nationals qualify only if you and both parents gave up Korean citizenship before that point.
Freshman
High school graduate, or expected to graduate before the semester starts.
Transfer into year 3
You have completed, or will complete, 2 years (4 regular semesters) at a 4-year university, 2+ years of a 3- or 5-year bachelor's program, or graduated from a junior college. You must apply to a major similar to your current one. Summer and winter sessions don't count as regular semesters.
Language requirements
Korean-taught majors
TOPIK level 4
TOPIK or TOPIK IBT level 4 or higher, or level 4 at Hanyang's Institute of International Education.
English-taught tracks
No TOPIK needed
The Korean requirement is waived, but each track sets its own English score.
What this really means
TOPIK 4 is not an application cutoff. Hanyang evaluates academic ability first, so you can be admitted without it. But if you haven't reached level 4, you take a leave of absence after admission, study Korean, and start your degree only once you meet the standard. Plan your timeline and budget for that extra time.

Where applicants get stuck
Foreign diplomas and transcripts usually need an apostille or Korean consular confirmation, and documents not in Korean or English need a notarized translation. Depending on your country this can take weeks. Start before you write your essay, and remember the deadline is an arrival date.

Scholarships for new students

Hanyang International Scholarship (HISP)
For top-scoring applicants in document or portfolio review. Freshmen can keep it for up to 8 semesters with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

TOPIK 6 or TOPIK 5
First-semester tuition. Graduates of high schools in Korea can't receive the TOPIK 5 award.
30%
English score award
First-semester tuition for TOEFL iBT 90 or IELTS 6.5 and above.
Scholarships can't be combined, and only documents submitted during the regular period are reviewed. Don't count on a scholarship when planning your budget.
First and second choice
At the Seoul Campus you can apply to one major, or to a first and second choice. A second choice adds KRW 27,000 (KRW 169,000 in total) and needs a separate online application after you pay for the first. You're reviewed for your first choice first; the second is considered only if you're not admitted to the first. Business (Korean and English tracks) and Media & Communication accept first-choice applicants only.
Housing
On-campus housing is limited and not guaranteed for international degree students. Ask us for the current options and fees, or check with Hanyang's residence office before you plan your budget.
Is Hanyang a good fit for you?
A strong fit if you want engineering or another STEM field in central Seoul and already have, or can reach, TOPIK 4.
The English route if you want International Studies, Data Science or Business without Korean, and have the TOEFL or IELTS score.
Think twice if you need to start classes on time without TOPIK 4 and your major is only taught in Korean.
