Humanities, social sciences, business and the arts are on the Seoul campus in Jongno; science, engineering and sport science are in Suwon, south of Seoul.

Korean track or English track?

Korean track

Most admission units. You need TOPIK 3 or above, or equivalent Korean study. Korean language institute certificates from SKKU or other Korean universities are accepted, as is an in-person King Sejong Institute certificate. Students who completed all three years of high school in Korea don't need TOPIK.

English track

A defined list of units that includes Global Economics, Global Business Administration, Computer Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and, since 2026, Chemical Engineering, Advanced Materials, Mechanical and Nano Engineering, plus the new Human Science and Society department. English-track students are exempt from TOPIK requirements.

What the Korean track means after you start

Korean-track students must submit a Korean certificate before their second year, or face limits on choosing a major and taking major courses. To graduate, international students admitted since 2016 need TOPIK 5. Students admitted with English scores are exempt.

The preliminary admission offer

SKKU has an option most universities don't. If you apply on the Korean track, don't meet the Korean requirement, but your other results are excellent, SKKU can give you a preliminary admission offer.

What this really means

Reach TOPIK 4 (or SKKU language institute level 4) within two years and reapply to the same admission unit, and you receive an unconditional offer for the next intake. Choose a different unit and the offer is cancelled. SKKU offers a Korean course at its language institute to help. It's a real second chance, but budget for up to two years of Korean study first.

Who can apply?

Nationality

You and both parents must be foreign nationals. Taiwanese applicants need at least one parent with foreign nationality. Anyone who gave up Korean citizenship must prove when foreign citizenship was obtained and when Korean citizenship was lost.

Education

A high school diploma or expected graduation. SKKU's past guides have not accepted the GED, homeschooling or cyber schooling; confirm in the current guide.

Disciplinary records now count heavily

From 2027, a school violence disciplinary record under Korean law reduces the total score by 10% for the lightest measure and to zero for all others. This mainly affects students who attended high school in Korea.

First-semester tuition for IELTS 8.0 or TOEFL iBT 110 (100%), or IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL iBT 95 (50%). TOEFL MyBest and IELTS One Skill Retake don't count.

First-semester tuition for TOPIK 6 or SKKU language institute level 6 (100%, overseas high school graduates only), or TOPIK 5 (50%).

By nationality

SKKU Global Leader Scholarship

Type A is limited to a published list of eligible nationalities, with criteria revised for 2027. A new language institute excellence scholarship was also added.

Costs and practical notes

Tuition depends on the admission unit. As one reference, SKKU lists the first semester for Human Science and Society at KRW 5,380,000 including the entrance fee (Fall 2026). SKKU arranges group health insurance for the first two months until you register as a foreign resident.

Plan your visa yourself

SKKU states that it does not help with issuing the Certificate for Visa Issuance, so you'll apply for your student visa directly at a Korean embassy or consulate. Check your local consulate's requirements early.

Is SKKU a good fit for you?

A strong fit for engineering, computing or business in English, with a document-only review and no interview.

Worth a look if your Korean isn't there yet: the preliminary offer gives you up to two years to reach TOPIK 4.

Think twice if you want to live in central Seoul and study science or engineering: those programs are in Suwon.
